I Timothy 6:10 Is Cash Your King? 10.11.09
The Bible has much to say about money. One out of every six verses in Matthew, Mark, and
Luke has to do with money. In the NT there are 38 parables; half of them Jesus devoted to
the issue of money. Fifteen percent of everything Jesus said that is recorded in Scripture has
to do with our attitudes and actions regarding finances. In the Bible there are 2,350 verses
relevant to finances. (There are 126 principles of stewardship mentioned in the NT alone.) It has
been said that your money is your life compressed. Today we will consider basic
Biblical principles of Christ-honoring stewardship.
I. What are Biblical principles of money management?
1. You need to spend less than you make . Prov. 13:11
2. You need to avoid the use of debt . Prov. 22:7
3. You need to build an emergency fund . Prov. 6:6-8
4. You need to set long term goals . Phil. 3:14
II. What should your financial priorities look like?

III. What should you consider when planning for your future?
1. There is no such thing as an independent financial decision.
2. The longer the perspective, the better the financial decisions .
3. Financial maturity : Giving up today’s desires for future benefits.
IV. Where do you start? Proverbs 30:8-9
1. You pray for God’s guidance and direction .
2. You look honestly at where you are .
3. You prioritize your needs and goals .
4. You prepare a workable plan .
5. You practice keeping good records .
