First Baptist Church of Cape Girardeau : The Podcast

What expectations do we have of Jesus?  Maybe, like the city of Jerusalem at the time, we need to be willing to hold loosely to what we expect of our faith in Christ.

In this sermon, Dr. Bruce Gentry speaks on--a story about unceasing prayer--the parable of the persistent widow.

The Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus is a terrifying story. In this sermon, Tyler explores this passage in detail and tries to make sense of what it means for us. Perhaps rather than being merely an informational session on the afterlife, this parable is meant to call us to action and compassion in this life.

This is maybe Jesus' most well-known parable. But what it have been like for each of the characters in the story: the Prodigal Son, the Father, and the Older Son? Well, with the help of Colten Mayberry, Patrick Tankersley, and Nathan Meece, we get to hear from each perspective. This parable continues to teach us about the vast expanse of God's grace.

In this sermon, Tyler discusses The Parable of the Great Dinner.  Once again going against the culture He was brought up in, Jesus discusses humility and love for all.

In this sermon, we explore the Parable of the Rich Fool. It leads us to ask the difficult question: What kind of relationship do we have with our money and possessions?

In this sermon Tyler talks about how Jesus--master storyteller that He is--subverts the expectations of the culture around him.  This story asks us to confront our own biases and prejudices: just who is our neighbor?

In this sermon, Tyler discusses the transformative power of Christ, and how--even through glimpses--we are able to see God's beauty and grace in the people we don't always expect.

In this sermon, Tyler walks us through the story of Jesus being anointed by the sinful woman.  As we reflect on the capacity of Jesus's grace, we see what forgiveness looks like in the eyes of God, and are instructed to carry that grace with us wherever we go.

This sermon was preached by Tyler Tankersley during a Deacon ordination service at FBC Cape. This story from the Gospel of Luke is about discipleship, evangelism, and calling.
