Notice the Imperative Given.
The Primary Imperative. 12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;
The Particular Instructions.

Notice the Incentive Provided. 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.Col. 1:28 28 Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. 29 For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me.
