In this look at I Samuel 23, we see – in the wake of Saul’s wickedness -- David’s capacity for bravery and self-sacrifice.  It’s one of the Old Testament scenes in which David most foreshadows and reflects the character and purpose of the greater King, Jesus Christ.

In this message, we’re forced to examine one of the most wicked episodes in Scripture.  But we’re also confronted with the truth that God, in His sovereign plan, was at work even in the midst of man’s wickedness.

In this look at I Samuel 22, we see God’s provision in David’s life, despite several brushes with death, and David’s faith begins to rise to the top.  The longer his exile continues, the more he begins to lean on his Rock, our faithful God.

In this message, we see David in the grips of fear and doubt, and that leads to scheming and even deception.  And it reminds us of an old truism – fear is always the enemy of faith.

In this look at I Samuel 21, we see the early stages of God’s discipline in David’s life through hardship – and the young pupil doesn’t cooperate any better with God’s sharpening than most of us did in our youth.

In this look at I Samuel 20, David receives confirmation that the king’s desire to kill him is fixed – and he is forced to embrace exile or face certain execution.  And we get to celebrate the Lord’s Supper together.
