Paul’s nephew discovers this murderous plot and is encouraged to talk. God sits on His throne as His will continues to work in the hearts of men.

During the commotion a cohort of soldiers arrives with the tribune who allows Paul (a citizen) an opportunity speak to the amassed crowd.

At this point in history Egypt had been conquered by Alexander the Great and under Roman rule for about 35 years at this point. Egypt represented a place where Herod could not reach and where Jesus would be safe until welcomed home to Nazareth.

The struggles of faith seem to come from our ability to trust in God’s provision and God’s timing. When we don’t feel like we’re getting what we need or not quickly enough our faith often falters. This is when we have to take a step back from ourselves and choose to focus on the bigness of God. He provides in His time. I trust, and I wait.

As the king of all creation is born the first to be welcomed are not princes, kings, or priests. God welcomes the shepherds who daily walk among His creation, while bearing a poor reputation and a high calling.

Bethlehem is an immensely storied town. It’s first mention comes from Genesis as the burial place of Rachel. The geography places Bethlehem in the Judean mountain range, surrounded by hills and valleys, where water flows and sheep graze. With highs and lows in history and geography, Bethlehem finds it’s place in history in the birth of our Saviour.

This village will be remembered not for it’s own achievements, but those of its favored Son: Jesus.
