Jesus was at a party for sinners. And it was just too much for the Pharisees that saw it play out. The way we avoid the wrong attitudes of the Pharisees is to see Jesus as bigger.
1) Jesus is bigger than rules (5.33-39)
2) Jesus is bigger than the Sabbath (6.1-5), and
3) Jesus is bigger than rituals (6.6-11)
Rules are a good thing. They act as guard rails for our lives. If they help you honor God, that's great. But if you love the rules more than you love God, your priorities are in the wrong place. Let's not be like the Pharisees who were so caught up with their rules that they missed the relationship they could have had with Jesus.
