 Luke 14:15-24

God’s invitation for us is to experience fellowship with Him, made possible by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We sometimes find ourselves, like the guests in this passage, making excuses to not follow Jesus. However, Jesus tells us that being a disciple is a lifestyle of full surrender.

In Luke 11, Jesus is invited to dine with Pharisees. He isn’t afraid to offend his host, however, as Jesus calls out the hypocrisy of the religious leaders. We are all called to constantly check our hearts for the same type of hypocrisy.

“Lord, teach us to pray.” In the disciples’ request of Jesus, and in Jesus’ response, we learn what it looks like to desire God. Our desires for lesser things get in the way. What do we do about that?
