The doxology of Romans 16:25-27 is a restatement of the central theme of Romans – the glory of God in the gospel of grace.

With Genesis 3 in the background, Paul sees the church locked in a battle with Satan. He writes to warn them of this battle, to exhort them to resist the devil’s deceitful tactics, and to encourage them that the battle will not continue forever.

Behind all the names and greetings of Romans 16 we find a church bearing seven characteristics worth emulating.

If the Roman Catholic Church is the wanton harlot of Babylon of Revelation 17, the Roman church in Romans 16 is the chaste and holy bride of Christ, bearing nine characteristics of the true church.

In order for a partnership between a missionary and a missional church to work, they need to share five characteristics.

The aim of this message is to better understand the vastness of lostness all around the world, understand how Christ has called us to respond to this lostness, and to know some specific ways we can be involved in getting the gospel to all peoples.

We want to be the kind of church that Paul wanted to partner with (v. 14), and we want to partner with the kind of missionary Paul was (vv. 15-21).
