You can’t solve life’s problems in your own strength. Everything you can do, and everything the world can offer you, is still not enough. You need more. That “more” is called God’s favor. The image of Jacob being alone is metaphorical. We all end up like Jacob – after we’ve manipulated, worked, controlled and juked our way through life – we eventually face something that we can’t handle in our own strength (for Jacob, he couldn’t heal his relationship with his brother). When we realize this, we all, like Jacob, metaphorically find ourselves alone at our Jabbok creek. The great news for us is God’s loves to pour his favor out on his children. Psalm 5:12 says, “Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.” And Deuteronomy 33:23 says that the tribe Naphtali was “…abounding with the favor of the Lord and is full of his blessing.”

If for some reason, if the power of the Holy Spirit was turned off or withdrawn from our lives and our church, would anyone notice? Would life and business continue as usual? How can we experience the true power of The Holy Spirit in our lives as we should? How can we be moved by The Unseen Mover? How can we be drawn closer to God, and further away from sin and worldly desires?
