On today’s episode, my guest is Annie Levitt, the author and illustrator of First Day at Halsey Hollow Farm.Her book is a beautiful children’s story about a horse named Captain arriving at his new home, and the beginning of his friendship with his new owner. Along the way, they experience some important life lessons and Annie shares some of those with us in our conversation. She also talks about Halsey Hollow Farm (which is a real place) and about how her love of horses and children’s stories led her to write and illustrate this book. Annie says that she doesn’t ever remember a time when she wasn’t crazy over horses. She borrowed any horse she could to take care of and ride. After saving babysitting money and lifeguarding money, she bought her own horse….the day before she left for college! Somehow she managed to work through college and keep her horse close by. In fact, since that day, a horse has always been at her side, helping her navigate through life.
