FIRST, FOCUS ON BEING PRESENT

Last week my husband was re-assigned to a job location in a new State.

For more than a week, I did my best to stay laser-focused on everything that needed to happen for the move, including being present to the support my husband needed in order to relocate.

Part way through the week, two friends that sent messages to me earlier in the week followed up to see if everything was okay because I hadn’t gotten back to them.

I realized that I didn’t just become laser focused on the move and being present with my husband, I had actually checked out.

It reminded me how closed off we can get when we’re trying to cope with something that we’re dealing with, or when we’re trying to change something about ourselves or prove to ourselves or others that we’re "better"/healed in some area of our life.

We tell ourselves that we’re staying focused and being present to something specific, but the reality is, we’re using our focus to avoid other areas of our reality that we don’t want to deal with.

Here’s why the most important thing to focus on is staying present to ourselves.
