Viridiana shared that after 10 years in her profession and working in her dream job, she made the decision to leave and step into entrepreneurship full time. Get to Know Viridiana:  Viridiana Rodriguez is CEO of Amar Therapy and co-founder of Healing Connections. As a Latina mental health therapist her mission is to spread love and hope within the Latinx/e individuals and communities. To break mental health stigma through wellness events/workshops by providing psychoeducation on different healing modalities in one space. She's passionate for individuals who are ready to love (amar) themselves a little more when life may be difficult to cope with by providing therapy sessions. In this episode I was joined by Father/Apa who is from Mexico and shared with us his story of coming to the U.S.  Being that this podcast is for the FirstGen community, my intent for sharing this is to share with you the dynamic that i have been able to create with my father post spiritual awakening/healing journey. For a very long time I craved that my relationship with my parents went beyond the surface level conversations because they left me feeling lonely and not seen growing up. Michael shares with us the interesting story of how his spiritual awakening started in 2018 and the way that it has steered him in the direction of redefining his vision of success and prioritizing his emotional well being above all. Seeing the lack of representation of FirstGen Latinos / Latinas / Latines going through Spiritual Awakenings on social media platforms inspired us both to post content about this topic and I am so excited that we joined forces on this episode to further discuss.

Hola! In this episode I was joined by Emily Tapia -  a Latina Entrepreneur, Owner of Tapias Fuego LLC. We spoke about how as Latina women growing up in Mexican households, we noticed patterns and traumas that we didnt wan't to carry through into our adulthood (such as Machismo and Marianismo) and yet found ourselves in relationships that mirrored some of those things. This conversation is a great reminder that ignoring red flags can lead us to situations that we thought we would never put ourselves through. Emily also spoke about her business, Tapias Fuego Mix, a business that she started in 2020 and has since then grown into amazing opportunities for her and her customers.  

Get to Know Emily: Emily is a Latina from South Central LA and the CEO of Tapias Fuego. Tapias Fuego is a brand that focuses on offering Mexican inspired products such as Michelada mix and rim paste while hosting events at different corporations with these very products. Tapias Fuego has expanded into bartending services where her latin culture is demonstrated through each drink. Emily’s mission with this business started as simply sharing her love for Micheladas with close family and friends and after these past two years has now become something to share with people all over the world. Despite being a second generation Mexican American in her family, representing her Latina culture was crucial in having this business.

Hola! In this episode I share a video I recorded 3 years ago!! Before FirstGen Healing was even created. My hope always is to inspire and empower first gens to live a life that feels good and part of doing that for myself included being unemployed for 3 months in 2019. 

At that time I was feeling lost and in need of knowing myself on a deeper level which led me to prioritize my mental health and leave a secure corporate job. Although risky, it is a decision that changed my life for the better and now I support FirstGens who are also on this journey!

We spoke about her experience of coming to the U.S. as a teenager and how being undocumented brings many layers of challenges. Gabriela also shares the unexpected changes that becoming a citizen brought into her life, with safety came space to reflect back on everything she had experienced. Gaby now focuses on her business and explains to us who she serves and why.

This episode reminded me of the tremendous privilege it is to be born in this country and not have to grow up with the uncertainties that being undocumented can bring. My heart goes out to anyone who is still living through this experience.
