Trip 23 Carp Fishing - 2026This week I was supposed to be fishing Airfield Lake, but something told me to take one last look at Meadow on the way through. The lake looked right, the weather conditions were spot on, and my favourite swim was available, so the decision was made. Armed with a mix of Nutrabaits Big Fish Mix, Jurassic Particles and the new EnerGize Corkie Wafters, confidence was high. Another challenging session down on Airfield Lake with cold northerly winds, dropping temperatures, and still no signs of spawning carp. Despite tough conditions, a change of approach with EnerGize hookbaits, particle mixes, and small PVA mesh bags produced a hard-fighting 25lb 13oz common during the first night. Trip 21 Carp Fishing - 2026 After a couple of weeks away from the bank, I returned to Airfield Lake just as strong winds, heavy rain, and low pressure swept across the South Coast. With gusts reaching 40mph and fresh water pouring into the lake, the conditions looked absolutely perfect. What followed was a session full of highs and lows, including a lost fish in the snags, a surprise 11lb 7oz pike, an aborted take, and two hard-earned common carp after more than 40 hours of waiting. Sometimes the conditions look spot on, but the carp have other ideas...

Yet, after arriving at the lake full of confidence, I found myself facing one of the toughest questions in carp fishing: do I stay put, move swims, or simply accept that June can be brutally hard? Over three days, I searched for answers, adjusted spots, followed showing fish, and questioned everything I thought I knew. Three nights later, at 04:03 in the morning, the left-hand rod finally came alive… resulting in a stunning 37lb 2oz common carp.
