Come on up to Sugarloaf with me for The Sugarloaf Charity Summit, and Its mission is to raise a mountain of money to fight cancer! This year the event benefited three organizations that are working to improve the lives of Mainers fighting cancer, The Dempsey Center, The Maine Cancer Foundation, and The Martha B. Webber Breast Care Center at Franklin Memorial Hospital.
The Sugarloaf Charity Summit brings together patients, survivors, family and friends that have lost someone close to them to cancer, health care providers, policy makers, and a few Maine made celebrities to raise money to fight cancer.

Come with me as I try to shave two minutes off my 5K time at the Thomaston Trek to benefit Trekkers, an organization that builds kids through adventure, travel, and mentorship. I try to chase down a super casual high school freshman, meet students, alumni, staff, and an ambitious 7-year-old lobsterman and am there to offer a helping hand to a fellow runner. Come for a run around Thomaston, grab a stack of pancakes at the slipway restaurant, and have some fun all to benefit Trekkers students and the organization.
Thank-You to all of the Runners and Walkers that showed up to support the Trekkers as well as to Shari, Elias, James, Brandon, Harriot, Bryson, Erin, Lindsay, and Aimee for being awesome podcast guests!

Join me as I tackle 5 miles on the newly open rail trail in Belfast, Maine. This scenic flat gravel trail follows the passagassawakeag river, crosses wooden bridges and ends at the historic Belfast Railroad Depot. The day started out cold and overcast, but by race time the sun was out in full effect and the temperatures soared in the sunshine of the trail. I meet a family of trail runners, a 1/2 Ironman triathlete completing the last shakedown run before competing in Maryland the following weekend, an ultra-marathoner bound for Leadville, Colorado, a blast from my sea kayak guiding past, and folks from the Coastal Mountains Land Trust. It was a really great day for a run on a great new trail that benefited the Coastal Mountains Land Trust, an organization that preserves and protects some of my most favorite spots here in the Mid-Coast Maine area.
Thank-You to all of the Runners and Walkers that showed up to support the Land trust, and to Emily, Evan, Doug, Glen, Kathy, and Courtney for being willing and exceptional podcast guests!

This week I finally was able to sit down with Mark Walter the founder of Sun Multisport events. Mark organizes triathlons of various lengths, a Farm based trail running series and the Race Mania Summit and Expo for endurance athletes and that happens annually in March.
When Mark isn’t coordinating events he’s putting in miles getting ready for a full Ironman triathlon in the fall. To learn more about the races and events that we will be discussing in this episode you can go to www.sunmultisportevents.com
A huge Thank- you to Mark for taking time out of his day in the middle of a very busy racing schedule to talk about what goes into making these events happen. It’s all in the details-Also the clock is ticking to get in on some of these events this summer! So you owe it to yourself to check out Mark’s events. If you see one that catches your eye, register today. Put it on the calendar and start training!
For me, it was the Whaling City Tri at the end of the month. It’s a great distance to ease into the sport of triathlon and seeing how I have an Olympic distance coming up the first week of September, this will give me an idea of what I need to work on over the month of August.

In this episode we head to the Camden SnowBowl for five nights of ski racing under the lights with my team of mostly first time ski racers. I'll introduce you to my team, and we'll meet the coaches, the competition director, as well as a few of our fellow racers. We'll talk gear, the secret to success on the slopes, and how having a take no prisoners attitude may be easier said than done. Join us for this look into the world of alpine ski racing at a local community mountain. This event benefited the Ragged Mountain Ski Club, that strives to make skiing accessible for youth and their families in Mid-Coast Maine.

Just a quick update on what's been happening between the shows. It's been a while since the last episode so I just wanted to catch you up with what I've been working on and what is in the works for the summer racing / event schedule. It's going to be a very busy four months- and well the fall is going to be busy too- it's all just getting started with the Fit 40 challenge.
I caught up with Theo Berez- the Penobscot Bay YMCA's Wellness director to discuss her role in helping people find lifelong fitness. We discuss designing programs for young skiers to helping a 92 year old rehab after knee surgery, and just about everything in between. Theo shares her philosophy on training the athlete first, then train for the sport, and finally the position in order to build total body balance and your body awareness in space. She also discussed the the importance of movement IQ and how we can improve it and subsequently our coordination. Learn how to avoid the all to common post New Years gym burnout by avoiding injury, by properly preparing witht a foam roller and changing things up.
