  • 88 – Mairzy Doats, Prosthetics and Performance

    And Emmy Streaks discussed.

This week, Katey, Patches and David are here to debate the merits of Ryan Adam's cover of Taylor Swift's 1989 album and how this cover album should be followed by a Mandy Moore cover album of Katey Perry. Then: The Emmys were this week and unlike the Oscars, the Emmys are an award show of streaks. What's up with the award chaining. Finally, inspired by Johnny Depp's turn as Whitey Bulger in Black Mass, the gang talks about how performances have been helped and hurt by prosthetic work.

  • 87 – TIFFITWR, The Toronto International Film Festival Grab Bag Special

And David mentions Carol even though it's not playing there.

This week, Katey, Patches and David are in Toronto. Katey skipped a party to record, Patches has been there about a week, David has been there about three hours, but has pre-screened some awesome films and is fresh off Telluride. Da7e sits out the week because it's a late-night stream of consciousness podcast about all the movies of the next half year and which are worthwhile. Get out your notepads, it's time for the 2015 TIFF podcast! 45 Years! Anomalisa! Emma Watson! The Martian!

  • 86 – Remembering Best Pictures

And will we remember them later?

David has gone to Telluride as Katey, Patches and Da7e stay behind to talk about these dregs of the summer movie season. First, this weekend sees the release of foreign horror movie Goodnight Mommy, Patches and Da7e have both seen it and want to ask Katey if a twist can actually hurt your viewing of a film. Then, Patches wants to see The Bastard Executioner unspool and will we remember the past two decades of Best Picture winners as fondly as the Oscar winners of the early years?

  • 85 – One Day You Wake Up Old and the Best TV Adaptation Series is Behind You

And a short bit on Wes Craven's greatness

Katey is back with Da7e, Patches and David and not only did she survive her vacation, she survived the VMAs. This year's MTV Video Music Awards had Da7e feeling old and Miley Cyrus comes up. We lost Wes Craven this weekend, so everyone takes a moment to reminisce about the man who mastered horror for over three decades. Finally, NBC's Hannibal aired what was probably its series finale and Da7e who has read all the Thomas Harris books thinks the TV show might be the best adaptation ever.

  • 84 – Summer Movie Season in Review

And is the new Carly Rae Jepsen all we needed it to be?

David and Da7e and Patches/Said are BROCASTING once again as Katey goes on vacation. Patches happened to be driving this week, which got him wondering if summer music is easier than blockbuster summer film. Then, Da7e smokes a J while Patches and David debate the merits of the Max Landis written American Ultra. Finally, all three guys go through the massive Summer Movie Season of 2015 and wonder just how everything worked so well and if it was all worth it.

  • 83 – Performances That Make The Most of Aging

Can Disney make Lupita Nyong'o happen?

Katey, David and Da7e are down a Patches/Said and instead take some time to reflect on D23 and the the apparent attempt of Disney to increase representation in their films. Then, Katey has some summer movie quote trivia one David is more prepared for than the other. Finally, in a segment three that Patches can't listen to, we use Han Solo and Clouds of Sils Maria as a jumping off point to talk about good performances from aging actors that acknowledge what has come before.

  • REVIEW – Straight Outta Compton, The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

    Straight Outta straight outta jokes.
This week, Katey, David, and Patches go straight out of Compton to the Italian cost to record their new spy-themed rap album. Wait, no. They're reviewing Straight Outta Compton and Man from U.N.C.L.E.. But it'll be just as fun.

  • 82 – Shadow Movies, Story Costumes and a True Detective Defense

The lost versions of Ant-Man, Fantastic Four and studio-run blockbusters

Katey, Patches, David and Da7e form their own Fantastic Four once again to talk about "shadow movies" or films that have been passed off during production or tampered with by the studio. That way we can talk Edgar Wright's scars on Peyton Reed's Ant-Man or Fox's dirty work with Josh Trank's Fantastic Four, but we can also mention documentaries like Lost Soul and The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened? Also, a mini segment about everyone's favorite movie costume that also told some story and a tidbit where David makes Da7e defend True Detective Season 2.

  • REVIEW – Oh man, Fantastic Four

What happened to 2015's superhero bomb?
In a special review episode, Da7e and Patches convene to discuss the absolute mess that is 20th Century Fox's newest take on The Fantastic Four. Both agree the movie isn't good, but Da7e attempts to talk his way through what happened while Patches gauges just how much fun – if any – is truly had.

  • 81 – Wet Hot Thriller Podcast About Feeling Powerless With Consumerism

The one with the long Jimmy Stewart impression at the top

Katey, Patches and Da7e ride without a David this week and on Da7e's actual birthday so everyone is a bit nicer to him and his topics. First, Da7e thought he was going to see Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation this weekend, but couldn't bring himself to support Tom Cruise and Scientology. Then, The Gift comes out this weekend and seems to be a fun twist-based thriller. Since no one on the podcast had seen it, we instead talk about Blumhouse Productions other thirller, Creep, which is on Netflix. Finally, Wet Hot American Summer: first Day of Camp is out and Da7e thinks it might be the most perfect Netflix revival possible. All that plus a lightning rougd question that hasn't passed judgement on Fantastic Four just yet!
