Five and Dive episodes

  • Episode 402: They Might Be Five and Dive's Brand New Podcast Flood
In Episode 402, Patrick, Jeffrey, and Craig chat about Saberseminar and then discuss five mostly baseball topics.

    1. Judge, Jury, and Executioner of Middle-Middle Pitches: Aaron Judge had a good weekend, as did the very boring 2024 Yankees. Plus the inside scoop on his Paw Patrol spin-off appearance.
    2. August and Everything After: After chiding Craig for once again not getting another musical reference, we debated which of the Pirates, Tigers, and Nats we'd most like to root for going forward. 3. Around the Horn: Ohtani goes 40-40 and the White Sox go 100 losses. Plus, we discuss the prices of game-used jerseys.
    4. What to Watch: Not the Danny Jansen game (it already happened), instead try a World Series preview if there is such a thing.
    5. Games should not be this open-ended.

    4. What to Watch: It's time to pay attention to playoff races
    5. Listener-provided confidence intervals to test how well BP editors know their own stats.

In Episode 400, Patrick, Jeffrey, and Craig chat Golden Triangle poety (again maybe?) and the outdoor life and then discuss five mostly baseball topics.

    1. Simply the Best: Somebody has to be the best team in baseball this year, but no one seems to want to be. Also the White Sox somehow come up in this segment.
    2. The Sixth Inning Stretch: Since Patrick is back we do even more chat about the potential six-inning starter rule.
    3. Around the Horn: A bevvy of call-ups and injury returns
    4. What to Watch: It's time to watch some playoff races.

  • Episode 399: William Wagner, Second Earl of Wagner
In Episode 399, Jeffrey and Craig chat about coffee and Ritz crackers and then discuss five mostly baseball topics.

    1. No Home on the Range: I don't know if everything is actually bigger in Texas, but the podcast sure is when we talk about Texas.
    2. The Guys Have It: What if we made a whole segment out of our guys
    3. Around the Horn: Jeffrey is not capable of nepotism because he can't remember who is related to who.
    4. What to Watch: We are still curious about the Yankees, but perhaps you prefer a completely meaningless Cubs/Jays series
    5. Two games for the price of one, and we learn that Craig is good at picking random numbers.

In Episode 398 Patrick, Jeffrey, and Craig chat about the EFL Championship and shooting free throws and then discuss five mostly baseball topics.

    1. Merrill-y We Roll Along: Jackson Merrill is carrying the Padres to the top of the NL Wild Card picture, will that mean he's tops for NL Rookie of the Year as well?
    2. Central Planning: The AL Central race tightens up and then untightens slightly. Still, none of us are picking the Guardians to win it.
    3. Around the Horn: Mostly players coming back from injury, but also Matt Festa is back.
    4. What to Watch: Well, that Giants/Braves game yesterday was great, maybe watch the rest of that series.
    5. An old game with a different name and a better result.

  • Episode 397: Where did you come from? Where did you go?
In Episode 397, Patrick and Jeffrey have one false start, one Cotton-Eyed Joe conversation, and then discuss five mostly baseball topics.

    1. Natty B'OHNO: The Orioles have a pitching problem and also maybe a philosophical problem.
    2. Do You Know How the West Was Won?: The Dodgers continue to be an annoying 95-win team instead of a 105-win team, and here come the Dbacks and Padres
    3. Around the Horn: Last White Sox segment for a while, we promise. Although we do get to find out their interim manager in real time.
    4. What to Watch: Some weird picks for a weird weekend, but here us out.
    5. We've finally given up on calling it the Lightning Round

  • Episode 396: The Streaks of Philadelphia
In Episode 396, Patrick, Jeffrey, and Craig all have banter to dispense with and then discuss five mostly baseball topics.

    1. Is it Always Sunny in Philadelphia: The Phillies are scuffling, obviously this is the worst thing ever to happen to Phillies fans ever.
    2. Snell-O-Vision: Yeah, it's time for no-hitter chat again, but also what is next for the Giants and Blake Snell?
    3. Around the Horn: Mike Trout is shut down for the season and maybe the White Sox should just shut down for the season.
    4. What to Watch: You already know what sickos is, but there is also a Texas derby and a Dodgers/Phillies rematch
    5. Patrick continues to disrespect the alphabet, while Craig disrespects high-speed internet

    2. Hi Everyody! Hi Dr. Cash!: So what's up with Jack Flaherty's medicals anyway.
    3. Around the Horn: The Orioles sort through their roster and a lot of post-deadline DFAs.
    4. What to Watch: Now the real sickos season begins.
    5. Testing Craig and Patrick's knowledge of two players in particular.

  • Episode 393: Jeffrey Really Needs to Turn Around the Late July Shows Immediately
In Episode 393, Patrick, Jeffrey, and Craig chat about trade deadline time dilation and then discuss five mostly baseball topics.

    1. FRAUD WATCH: We had to bring it back after the Mariners got swept by the Angles (yes we recorded before the Randy Arozarena trade), but the Astros, Yankees, and Braves may not be beating the faud allegations either.
    2. Rumour Has It: We recap some scuttlebutt right before the trades start flying in.
    3. Around the Horn: Cal Quantrill got a little too hot (as did the Rockies bats), two former MVPs are dealing with injuries, and a ballpark food item we actually like for a change.
    4. What to Watch: An NL East rivalry plus more NL Wild Card Shenanigans.
    5. We should just rename the Lightning Round to Can You Repeat the Question.
