Back on the soapbox today to remind you that YOU MATTER! (Using the story of the feeding of the 5,000.)

"Five loaves and two fish. That’s all a little boy had to give, but he offered it, willingly, to Jesus, in hopes that, somehow, maybe, it might be of some help in accomplishing this enormous task. Perhaps the boy’s only intention was to feed the Teacher. Perhaps, he wasn’t expecting miracles, maybe, the youth was simply being unselfish. “Master,” he may have whispered, “This may not be of any help, but if you are hungry, please, take it. We long to hear what you have to say.” His stomach grumbled inside him. He felt weary in the late afternoon sun, but with eyes downcast, he lifted up the rags that his mother had so carefully wrapped for him.Can you relate? My lunch, Lord? My passions? My dreams? Jesus, how could they ever be enough? Can you really do something with **gestures vaguely** this?Five loaves and two fish. 5,000+ mouths to feed. Surely the boys’ little lunch wasn’t up for the task. It’s laughable, isn’t it?Is it? Apparently not.As the story goes, Jesus takes the food, offers a simple prayer over it, and, breaking the bread, He hands the pieces to His disciples, and they in turn went throughout the crowd of well over 5,000 people, their hands never without bread and fish. Of course, I wasn’t there, and neither were you, so it’s hard to imagine the specifics of how it all worked out, but we do know that there were twelve basketfuls left over. Twelve. Perhaps your offering of yourself to the Lord was nothing more than an act of obedience. You didn’t plan on helping Jesus; why, that thought is crazy, right? Still, you felt compelled to offer your body as a living sacrifice to God (Romans 12:1) , and so you have. But now what.Lord, what can you do with me? I’m five loaves and two fish-worth. Shoot, I’m probably a 2 loaf, 1 fish situation over here. What could you possibly do for a hurting world through me?Famine. Disease. Politics. Loss. Trafficking. Hate. Jesus, can’t you see? I’m not up for the task! I mean, where would I even begin? The little boy may not have expected much more than a pat on the head that day, if that. Jesus was a very busy man, after all. But he had seen this Teacher heal all sorts of diseases, cast out demons, even raise the dead! So maybe… Just maybe.Maybe He can use me.Maybe He can make a lot out of so, so very little.Matthew 14, Mark 6, Luke 9, and John 6 all tell us He can.He can do a lot with a little, my friend. He can surely use you.The Bible talks about spiritual gifts over and over again, and if the Bible repeats itself, I assure you, it’s worth heeding. You may feel like you truly have nothing to offer the Messiah. You’re a few fish short of 5,000.Hey, listen to me: You’re enough. Your talents, your dreams, your passions, your hopes: they’re all a part of a little package to give to the Master. Don’t give up.Offer them every day. Hone them, work at them, pray over them, through them, beside them, between them and during them, and then wait. Wait and see. He’s about to work a miracle. An everyday miracle, perhaps, but a miracle, nonetheless. Feeding 5,000 people isn’t curing cancer, now is it?But it’s important.Feeding your toddler hooligans isn’t rocket science....But it’s Kingdom-work.Answering the phone at your job isn’t solving world hunger....But it’s Your lunch, my friend.Your little loaves. Your little fishes. Offer your time, your passions, your every days to the One who can and will work miracles through it. You won’t be disappointed. "
