Laurel Cemetery was incorporated in 1852 as Baltimore’s first nondenominational cemetery for African Americans. Many prominent leaders of the African American community were buried there.

Harry O. Wilson was an extraordinarily successful banker, a businessman, and a philanthropist that helped Baltimore’s Black community in numerous ways and built the neighborhood known as Wilson Park.

Completed in 1912, the Eastern Avenue Sewage Pumping Station opened as a critical engine of Baltimore’s then brand-new sewer system.
