5 Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2 and he began to teach them.
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
for they will inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
7 Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven
3 “Those who know there is nothing good in themselves are happy, because the holy nation of heaven is theirs.
“Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor; the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them!
“God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
You will never depend on what you think you don’t need.
15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. 17 You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord
As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. 4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,(not getting what you really deserve) 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace (getting something you didn’t deserve) you have been saved.
3. Without Jesus there is no hope for change.
They offer superficial treatments for my people’s mortal wound. They give assurances of peace when there is no peace.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here!
2. Without Jesus you pay for your own way.
