The Fix Harare Podcast is back! For this episode, we have partnered with Accountability Lab Zimbabwe to talk about civil servants who are going above and beyond to serve their communities. The idea behind the Integrity Icon campaign is to create public service role models, especially for young people. In this episode you will hear five men and women who have been selected as Integrity Icons. They tell us about what motivates them as civil servants to truly serve their communities.
In our final episode of the year, we look back at the major issues which affected Harare residents in 2021. Our guest for this episode is long-time community organizer, urban activist, and friend of the podcast, Mike Davies. Join us as we reflect on council, local government and service delivery issues plaguing Harare residents in 2021 and discuss our hopes for the future of the Sunshine City.
In this week's episode, we discuss the critical environmental issue of our time: climate change. We talk to Sustainable Development Consultant Anna Brazier, who helps to explain the phenomenon and what we can do to address climate change in our Harare communities.
In this week's episode we speak to Dr. Michael Vere, the Acting Provincial Epidemiology and Disease Control Officer at City of Harare. We discuss covid-19's effect on Harare residents since the first covid-related death was announced in March last year and see how far we have come. We also discuss the government's gradual lifting of lockdown and whether it is safe for our kids to go back to school in the midst of a coronavirus pandemic.
In this week's episode, we speak to Human Rights and Environmental lawyer Fiona Iliff about how we can protect Harare's wetlands. Harare cannot function without water. These land water 'storage' areas are a critical part of our water ecosystem and building on them can lead to flooding or cause them to dry up.
In this week's episode, we look at the demolition of homes under construction in Melfort and other areas in Harare. Our guest this week is Urban Planner, Dr. Percy Toriro who helps break down Harare's acute housing shortage and the City of Harare's response to people building houses in 'unregulated' areas.
In this week's episode we discuss the complex balance that is needed to maintain order and cleanliness while also allowing people to make a living in our depressed economy. Listen as we speak with the Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Informal Trader's Council, Arthur Muromba about what is to be done about make-shift informal trading sites in Mbare.
Service delivery to Harare residents is NOT optional. In the final episode in our series focusing on City of Harare, Managing Editor Henry Munangatire and veteran Community Organizer/Urban Activist, Mike Davies share their insights about the problems at City Council. Listen to hear how they propose how you can push for improved service delivery in your neighbourhood.
In this week's episode we speak to City of Harare Spokesperson, Michael Chideme about the management structure of COH. We also ask him about public access to City of Harare's budget and about how the Town Clerk gets appointed.
This week we are doing a deep dive into Harare City Council. How does Council actually work? This episode is the 1st of a three-part series that focuses on how Council runs. To help share his insight on this, we invited special guest, Honorable Rusty Markam, MP of Harare North to talk with us on the Fix Harare Podcast.
