Welcome back to Fix This Before You Break.
Today we're talking about something I think ishugely underestimated in preventative and longevity medicine: bone density, muscle mass and body composition.
Because you can look fit, have a normalweight, exercise several times a week — and still have low bone density, inadequate muscle mass, significant muscular asymmetry or more visceral fatthan you realise.
And usually, none of those things hurt.
Often the first time someone discoversosteoporosis is after they've already fractured something.
Which is exactly the opposite of how I want topractise medicine.
So today we're going to talk about how we canfind these problems before you break.
My guest is Dr Sven Rees, an exercise andsport physiologist with a PhD and the founder of Exercise Matters.
Sven and his team perform many of the DEXAscans, VO2 max assessments and strength testing for our Empower Longevitypatients, and what I particularly like about his approach is that the testingisn't simply about generating numbers.
It's about asking:
What do we actually do with the information?
What does good nutrition actually look like at different stages of life?
In this episode of Fix This Before You Break, Dr Jenifer Luman speaks with Dr Stacy Morgan, dietitian and founder of Hive Nutrition, about how our nutritional needs evolve from adolescence through midlife and into older age.
Together, they explore nutrition for women and men during hormonal change, the importance of protecting muscle and bone, and the specific nutritional considerations for people using GLP-1 medications. They also discuss protein requirements, healthy ageing and the common mistakes that can quietly undermine long-term health.
No gimmicks, extreme diets or wellness fads—just practical, evidence-informed advice from experienced health professionals to help you eat well, preserve your strength and support your healthspan.
Because good nutrition is not about perfection. It is about giving your body what it needs before something begins to break.
Meet the founders of Empower Longevity. In this opening episode of Fix This Before You Break, Dr Jenifer Luman and her co-founders share their backstories, the experiences that brought them together, and why they’re passionate about preventive care.
Discover the thinking behind Empower and a shared ambition: helping people take action earlier, improve their healthspan, and keep doing what they love for longer.
