A report showed 423 schools are without social workers, while most of the schools with at least one social worker do not meet the recommended ratio of one social worker to every 250 students. Rural school districts are seeing a retention problem since they cannot afford to compete with their urban counterparts.

Senior citizens who have large items they want to dispose of can contact the town, which will send crews to pick the items up.

If possible the items will be recycled.

The city has already secured grant funding for two other aging bridges. Those will be completed first. If the city receives the federal grant, work on the Canoga St. bridge would begin in 3-4 years.

The project is expected to cost about $6,000,000 with a 20% local match.

A small city in New York faces water infrastructure issues similar to the ones making national headlines in Jackson, Mississippi.

Mount Vernon has had water infrastructure problems for decades. In 2020, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York slapped the city with a permanent injunction for not addressing sewage-discharge issues, and for violating Environmental Protection Agency administrative notices.

The church was purchased by the National Park Service as part of the Harriet Tubman National Historical Park, which opened in 2017.

The county received a grant four years ago, but it wasn't enough to take care of all the systems that needed repair or replacement.

The county has applied for $400,000 in this round of funding.
