In Ephesians 5:16, Paul makes a statement that the “days are evil. The city in which he was writing to (Ephesus) was known for its extravagant, vile nature and here Paul calls for the Christian’s in that city to live a life that blesses God, and that will lead people to Him.

Although we are 2000+ years removed from this statement, it still holds true today. The world that we live in is just as sinful and vile as Ephesus was when Paul wrote the letter to the church there. So, how do we as Christian’s live in such an evil time?

In Mark 10:46-52 we read the story of a blind man named Bartimaeus who had long waited at the Jericho Gate. One day Bartimaeus has an encounter with Jesus and is willing to cry out continually to Jesus to be healed.

In Mark 10:46-52 we read the story of Bartimaeus, a man who was blind from birth. Bartimaeus finds himself in Jericho at the same time as the Jesus, and he has the confidence and faith to cry out to Jesus at great risk of losing his position at the Jericho gate.

The story of Bartimaeus and the faith he showed presents lessons for us as Christian’s and provides great comfort knowing that God hears our cries.

How do we discern God's will for our lives? Life is not always black and white and we may not always get explicit answers within the scriptures for how to deal with specific situations that we may find ourselves in (ex: should i accept this job?).

However, the bible does give us guidance by encouraging us to live lives that glorify God, and it is only through seeking Him that we may know his will.

In John 12 we read Jesus talk to a group of people in the city of Jerusalem just days before he will be crucified on the cross. In this discussion Jesus is trying to convey to his followers what he will have to go through in the coming days, but they just do not get it.

Jesus undoubtedly is anxious, sorrowful and dreadful for the things that he will be going through just a few days after this, but even through all of that sorrow, he says in John 12:27-28 -"Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. 28Father, glorify thy name."

When we are going through the struggles and tribulations of life, are we asking for God's name to be glorified?
