Flames at 80 Decibels

Stopping by to talk about Calgary's prospects at the World Juniors is Aaron Vickers from NHL.com, who is also the brains behind prospect website/publication Future Considerations. Tapping into Aaron's expertise, we also re-visited the last few NHL drafts and assess how Calgary has done. We close off by answering some listener questions about the current goings-on with the Flames.

TSN Calgary correspondent Jermain Franklin joins host Darren Haynes to talk about life working for The Sports Network, the latest goings-on with the Calgary Flames including Chad Johnson, the team's recent resurgence, as well as surprises and disappointments so far. We finish off with a listener mail bag.

Postmedia Flames beat writer Wes Gilbertson stops in to chat with Darren Haynes about a season that continues to be a disappointment for the Calgary Flames. Topics include the heat on coach Glen Gulutzan, the struggling special teams, the Nicklas Grossmann experiment and the Pacific Division. Some listener questions are also answered.

Postmedia Flames beat writer Kristen Odland joins host Darren Haynes in a recap of all things Calgary Flames. Nearing the three-week mark of the regular season, it's been a roller-coaster season so far. Topics we get after include Glen Gulutzan's unique coaching methods, individual performances so far and what the plan is for Matthew Tkachuk.

Come for the content, stay despite the audio quality (due to technical difficulties). On location in Penticton, Ryan Leslie stopped in to join Darren Haynes in a discussion about Flames prospects. We get in-depth on Matthew Tkachuk, not just what we saw on the ice but more about him off the ice. We also look at others that impressed and debate who disappointed.

Longtime PostMedia Flames beat writer -- turned columnist -- Scott Cruickshank joins Darren Haynes as co-host. He talks about life on the road when you're covering the team full-time. We also discuss the Sean Monahan signing and the two-decade void he fills, expectations for Glen Gulutzan and assess the off-season for Brad Treliving. Oh, and we debate if 2016-17 will be Jarome Iginla's final season.

In episode 4, Ryan Leslie from Flames TV joins me. He talks about his unique vantage point on the team. We also debate other topics including who will play RW on the top line, who might benefit the most from the new coach and vice versa, what is the one that could go very wrong and who is the top candidate to be named alternate captain to replace Kris Russell.

In episode 3, Rob Kerr and I tackle a number of Flames off-season topics including why Gaudreau and Monahan remain unsigned, what would a Flyers trade proposal for Gaudreau look like, expansion, conflicting opinions on my top 20 Flames prospects and the contentious Troy Brouwer signing. Oh, and we talk about life working at a video store and the challenges associated with 'adult' movies.

While it may only be July, co-hosts Darren Haynes and Rob Kerr contemplate what the Flames line-up will look like come Oct. 12 when Calgary opens the regular season in Edmonton. Disagree all you want with our thought process, surely you'll agree that the sound is far better in this edition.

In the pilot episode and with no real technology at my fingertips, I fired out a solo podcast in which I recapped Flames development camp. Don't worry, the audio does get better in future episodes.
