It’s April 22nd aka Earth Day and for our second guest to the show, we have a special most-organic plant loving plant Daddy - Hilton Carter. He is a long time friend to the hosts Impulse and Jason Bass, so we talk about more than plants on this one. We get to check out the other side of the ‘leaf’ (plant puns are welcome in the comment section) to talk music, food, culture and more with the homie. Learn about Hilton’s upbringing, life before plants, and his journey through it all.
Make sure you check out all 3 of his books listed below. Upgrade that coffee table decor with 3 of the most beautiful of books. You can also check out the video from the interview on The Night Brunch’s YouTube channel.

It’s Good Friday for Flavor Friends and Jasmine from The Urban Oyster is doing her holiday fried fish platter. She drops off a plate for the friends even though it sold out asap. This episode is full of flavor. Impulse, Jason Bass and Donte Johnson pick up from where they left off in the culture. We hope you enjoyed episode 12 which was our first interview and video podcast with DJ Excel in LA. For episode 13, we are back on the podcast format in Revival Hotel with Topside announcing it’s reopening April 15th. No dress code required but style is always a must. AirMax weekend at Revival was amazing and Tashia of The Sneaker Exhibit created one of the best post COVID experiences yet while celebrating women in the sneaker culture from around the region.
Donte flexes his DC pride with Nike Foamposites over Air Force One’s. Feel free to leave a comment about this one. In other news, Taco Bell hot sauce is being sold for some crazy amount, NFT’s are doing the same - we have no idea what’s real and fake anymore, but we definitely feel the need to get in the game and create our own Night Brunch NFT sauce art. You copping?
We also find out that we all have heavy nerd energy. Of course we have to talk about Lil’ Nas X and the evil airmax’s. He proves trolling does pay off. Also prepare yourself for an Impulse you’ve never seen before - en fuego. Nike sent him a pair of sold out Carpet Company SB Dunk’s. So you know we had to ask to only question that will either get your sneakers taken or allow you to get home the same way you left.......”What size of those?” LMAO.
In food news, Half Smoke opened up their Baltimore location and we got a chance to check it out before they opened. Someone finds shrimp tails in their Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal box - eww yo! Bud Light Seltzer releases a pizza flavor.
In music, they announced a new director of music for the Oscar’s.
This episode is flavorful af. BTW, next episode will have a special guest, but you have to listen to find out.

Jason Bass and DJ Impulse to talk style, food, travel and more of what you've never heard before from Excel. Of course we talk music, but we go deeper than a Ichiran Ramen bowl with Excel. In episode 11 DJ Impulse and Jason Bass joined by Donte Johnson talk food, fashion, culture and more. We kick this off episode full of flavor.
Netflix docuseries about the Cecil Hotel hits different when you work in a hotel. We have questions that will never be answered especially how the hell did they hire a no experience having GM in a hotel the size of a block in DTLA with deaths on the daily?! We just sayin (WJS). We find out what inspired Impulse to become a DJ. Impulse brings through some special snacks from Trader Joe’s that are life changing. These were clearly invited by an 80’s baby. Listen to this unwrapping ASMR experience with PB&J.
In other food and beverage news, White Claw drops some new Summer flavors. Sonic’s is dishing out Uncork Slushes that are spiked slushees. Sounds like a trap to us. Let us know how that works out for y’all. Travis Scott sells out of his spiked seltzer. You didn’t not get’em. We can get anything these days; sneakers, cell phones, supreme gear...nothing without hype stealing out greatness. Grateful Pizza, a local frozen pizza business started during the pandemic, dropped some pies off.
In the culture, Toy R Us is coming back with physical retail stores. We’re all about bringing back childhood toy store energy. Real World is coming back on MTV. Did y’all ever want to be on Real World? Or maybe Melrose Place? Maybe that’s just a Jason thing. We talk NFTs and what all the hype is about. The culture is big. Stream, share, comment and be a true Flavor Friend.

DJ Impulse and Jason Bass w/ Donte Johnson start this one off with an appreciation for our Baltimore roots and showing love to our two different accents. In food, fast food chicken sandwiches are still a thing. Tuna melts in the air fryer are fire and someone needs to make an uncrustable version for the friends. Stuff pancake bites from Eggo’s are out here. Coca-Cola has a canned coffee in stores. In the culture, Kanye and Kim are splitting and we hope the world gets a good album out of the situation since things seem over-over with them. In style – staying with Yeezy, his new sneakers look like a well steamed pork dumpling. Pharrell got cleared on the blurred lines sample problem. Kevin Harts stylist stole $1.2 million of Kevin’s money and styled himself. New emoji’s were introduced and we must have all needed the durag emoji and didn’t know it. Vaccination nation has us feeling free again.
We also watched a little Netflix (maybe more than a little) and we can’t believe people kept their doors unlocked in the docuseries ‘Night Stalker: Hunt for a Serial Killer’ even when they were told a serial killer was knocking off their neighbors. Also, the Cecil Hotel series is equally as wild. Check those out and look for the connection. Make sure you also download the new Cecil app that’s just the voice of an old dude that replaces Siri and interrupts you with old man facts.

We are back to talk about the culture, food, fashion and more with our friend Donte Johnson the GM of Revival Hotel. It’s Valentine Day weekend. We start it off acknowledging Jason’s recent addiction to the Bachelor. Feel free to make fun of him. Donte finds a way to compete at everything including at home Peloton battles. Hiking is the key to getting out of the house for some fresh air and fitness.
In music news, Jay-z and other artists from the 80’s are getting nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Food news, chicken grease lip balm. Lays put out a V-day wavy lays milk chocolate potato chips. Popeye’s is dropping a new fish filet in the mix. The culture is doing wrong by using Gorilla glue as a hair product. In fashion, Nike Dunks are forever. Todd Snyder drops the New Balance 992’s. We cover a lot in this episode. Check it out, comment, share.

Episode 7, “Drums or Flats?” Recorded at Revival Hotel with DJ Impulse and Jason Bass.
Literally starting off with some spicy talk about spices. Find out Impulse’s spirit spice animal. News of the new President is making all the reporters giddy. Happy Birthday to Jazzy Jeff. In food talk, Pringles is launching a chicken garage flavor in JP. Exciting but Pringles aren’t even potato chips. JP also has the best snacks in the world. The air fryer just won’t quit giving up the goodness. Gentle Monster opens a beautiful dessert shop in Seoul called Nudake (https://www.instagram.com/nu_dake/?hl=en). Apparently microwaves are still cool to use. They won’t cook you while you cook your food.
In style, we had to shoutout the Vice Presidents choice in outer wear with a coat by Pyer Moss. The Bernie Sanders meme’s took over the internet.
Impulse brings 5 hot questions for us to answer. One of the questions, “Drums of Flats?”…let us know. Put it in the comments on IG. It’s a thing.
The Flavor Friends playlist is coming out today and we have a contest for you. The first person to correctly identify 10 songs, 5 songs selected by Impulse and 5 songs selected by Jason Bass, gets. a $25 gift card to Orto in Baltimore City. Episode 6, “Baseball Card Moneys” recorded live from Topside at Hotel Revival with DJ Impulse and Jason Bass. We are doing this for the people but it's definitely for us. Dry Jan isn't stopping us as we sip on some tequila and wetting our beaks. Lot's of food talk this episode. The Air Fryer is still popping. KFC and Taco Bell are getting the great poultry push. Klondike makes a frozen donut situation. In music, we talk about Funk Master Flex's living MC's list. Getting the vaccine might get you some vag-ine.
