Space. The final Frontier. For centuries, man has looked up at the sky and wondered what exists out there beyond the reaches of our imagination. And in 2013, a hero-turned-villian-turned-back-to-hero named Sean Murray dared to answer that question. His answer: Nearly infinite procedural generation.
No Man's Sky is one of the most interesting case studies among modern video games. As we near the game's 10-year anniversary, this marks a great time to look back and reflect. On the surface, this is a story of a game dev who flew too close to the sun and whose wings burned off like Icarus. But, 10 years of free update and massive, free update tell a much different story. Not only did Icarus grow his wings back, but they eventually grew back bigger and better than ever before.
