December 06, 2025Episode 245 - Blood Passers 2Episode 245 is focused on two sequels from the early 90's. We start off with 1993's "Pumpkinhead 2" where they bring back the monster from Stan Winston's original movie for a whole new story of small-town revenge. It's not as good as the original, but it has enough cheesy fun torecommend it. We follow that with "Gate 2" from 1990, which is a much more successful follow-up. Picking up where the first film left off, the story follows a young wannabe warlock who gets involved in all sorts of black magic. It's a great example of enthusiastic low-budget filmmaking, and we totally recommend it.Send us your thoughts on the show and recommendations for future episodes to [email protected] or [email protected]. November 01, 2025Episode 244 - What Scares You Vol. 5 - Creepy CrawliesOur Halloween tradition continues with another look at "What Scares You?". This time it's those terrible little skittering creatures that make us jump and recoil, the infamous "creepy crawlies"!!! We have a couple of movies from different eras that both feature multi-legged monsters. From way back in 1975 comes "Bug" from genre stalwart Jeannot Szwarc. It's a surprisingly bleak and rough film, with giant cockroaches that can start fires. Many people fall victim to them and the lead character, played by the legendary Bradford Dilman is driven slowly insane as he studies them. This is good pulpy stuff. We follow that with 2012's "The Bay" from director Barry Levinson. This is a really cool twist on the "Found Footage" genre, mixing together lots of different found-footaged to tell the story of a bay that is overrun by carnivorous isopods. Everything about this one is excellent and it is a truly unique framework to tell a story. October 11, 2025Episode 243 - Pay the PiperEpisode 243 is upon you! We are gathered here today to celebrate the incredible Mr. Brett Piper. This dude has made a ton of movies over his career, but we picked two for the episode, 1986's "Battle for the Lost Planet" and 1988's "Mutant War". Both tell the story of a future earth that has been invaded by evil aliens and our only hope is Harry Trent, played with a lot of charm in both movies by Matt Mitler. Mr. Piper wrote, directed and handled the special effects in both movies. Was there a huge budget? No. Are all of the the actors incredible? No. Are these two of the most fun movies we've seen? YES! We urge you to seek these out on Tubi or wherever you can find them. Have a beer and lose yourself in a few hours of the best low-budget filmmaking we've seen in a while!Send us your thoughts on the show and recommendations for future episodes to [email protected] or [email protected]. September 14, 2025Episode 242 - JackstreamEpisode 242 is here with some fantastically fun scifi movies! We start off with "Slipstream" from 1989. Starring Mark Hamill and Bill Paxton with a truly impressive upporting cast. It's an interesting post-apocalyptic story that largely focuses on AI and the ultimate question of just what makes something "alive". It has issues here and there but it's really throught-provoking and moves along at a quick pace. We follow that with 1992's "Freejack" which stars Emilio Estevez and Mick Jagger. This one also has an amazing amount of A-Listers filling in the cast. The story here involves a sort of time travel and the pursuit of immortality. Big themes, big action set-pieces, and very big ambitions throughout!Send us your thoughts on the show and recommendations for future episodes to [email protected] or [email protected]. August 03, 2025Episode 241 - Psychic CrimesWe are back for episode 241 where we look at an entirely different type of "mind crime". We start off with 1982's "The Clairvoyant" also known as "The Killing Hour". This focuses on an artist who has violent dreams that seem to be depicting a series of murders around the city. It's a totally solid thriller with a truly surprising twist at the end. We follow that with a real rarity, a film from 1992 called "Small Kill". It features a surprising lead performance from none other than MASH's own Radar O'Reilly, Gary Burghoff as a murderous pedophile and extortionist. It's good, grim stuff with mostly solid performances and plenty of scenes that will completely skeeve you out. We recommend both movies very highly.Send us your thoughts on the show and recommendations for future episodes to [email protected] or [email protected].
