Christmas can so easily become routine or monotonous, or we can get wrapped up in gifts, and trees and carols. We begin to feel like it’s the same story, that we’ve heard one hundred times before.
But what we celebrate at Christmas was not a normal event, it was miraculous and wonderful. The birth of our Jesus should fill us with awe and wonder. A God full of glory, the creator chooses to become one with humanity. God decides to become one with us so that we have a relationship with him. We who are so wretched are at one with a Holy God! That is nothing short of a miracle. It is a wonder!

Good morning Flood church, I hope you are all well
I’m back once again with a story to tell
I’m back once again with bucket of rhymes
Arranged in a different order this time.
Arranged in a way as to shed a new light
On a very particular blessed starry night
Can anyone guess to which night I elude?
If you don’t listen up cause I’m-a rhyme that now, dude.
A long time ago in a faraway place
Came the fulfilment of our God’s amazing grace
A young lady named Mary had an angel drop by
He gave her an answer to her question, “Why?”
In faith she believed what she heard from that being
That her Son would spend his lifeblood in our freeing
And it came to pass for the Christ-child to come
The birth of our saviour, God’s holy son
The night of all nights when the shepherds would hear
The angelic announcement “The saviour is here!”
And far in the east Magi saw in the sky
The sign that the age of the saviour draws nigh
They gathered their camels and piled them high
And set out to find God, those stargazing Magi.
And here is the point in the story my friends
We should pause for a moment and read what it says
So turn in your Bible to Matt chapter 2
The first eighteen verses, so not all the way through.
Please stand to your feet as I read out God’s word
Please open your heart and let it be stirred.

The Magi Visit the Messiah
1 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi[fn] from the east came to Jerusalem 2 and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”
3 When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. 5 “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written:
6 “ ‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
for out of you will come a ruler
who will shepherd my people Israel.’”
7 Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. 8 He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.”
9 After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. 12 And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.
The Escape to Egypt
13 When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.”
