The story of Ruth actually starts in a cave in the hills above the smoldering ruins of Sodom but culminates in Bethlehem. God's grace and mercy shine forth in His providential care for Ruth, who, like the rest of us Gentiles, was "excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world" (Ephesians 2:12). Ruth was, like us, graciously drawn in to trust in the one true God. Ruth's redemption took place through a kinsman redeemer, Boaz, who pictures the work of our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we are reconciled to God. Paul reminds us in Ephesians 2:13 that in "Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ" who is the fulfillment of the promise to Abraham that every family on the earth will be blessed by his descendant. Praise God for the lavishness of His grace and the wideness of His mercy!

How old is our world? A creationist collected rock from the Mount St. Helens lava dome when it was ten years old, sent it off to the labs, and the ages came back between 340,000 and 2.8 million years. If the methods can miss by that much, what else are they telling us? Dr. Jake Hebert of the Institute for Creation Research joins Quentin Road Baptist Church with three reasons to trust the Bible's own timeline: the flood evidence written across the earth's rock layers, the science that quietly caps the age of the earth far below billions of years, and the reason none of this is a side issue — if death came before Adam, then death is not the penalty for sin, and the cross has nothing to pay for. Along the way: fossils frozen in the death pose, a supposed ten-million-year gap in the rock with no erosion at all, forests strangely missing from the Ice Age, a Sahara that was once well watered, and creatures that appear to have lived like Methuselah.
