Good afternoon! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Florida Weather Podcast. It's Sunday, February 22nd.
Folks, enjoy your last warm breath today because a cold front is barreling through the state like it has somewhere to be. And honestly? It's going to flip everything upside down by tonight.
Right now, South Florida is soaking up 84 degrees around 1 P.M. That's beach weather in February. But here's the twist. By 7 P.M., you're down to 51 degrees. Patchy fog burns off this morning, sun takes over, then southwest winds shift west around 3 P.M. A slight chance of showers sneaks in between 5 and 7 P.M. Tonight, northwest winds crank up to 22 miles an hour. You'll want a jacket you forgot you owned.
Up in Central Florida, thunderstorms roll through between 11 A.M. And 1 P.M. You hit 75 degrees at 32 degrees, then the bottom drops out. By 7 A.M. Monday? Thirty nine degrees. Feels like 31. That's a temperature crash that'll make your citrus trees nervous.
North Florida is already feeling it. Highs only touch 71 degrees around 4 P.M. By Monday morning, 35 degrees with northwest winds at 18 miles an hour making it feel like 24. Patchy frost is likely in rural spots tonight. Cover those plants.
Tampa Bay catches a quick rain chance near 11 A.M., then the front muscles through. Seventy two degrees at midday, 44 by Monday sunrise. Feels like 38 with that northwest breeze.
Now the week ahead tells a wild story. Monday and Tuesday stay locked in the cold. Freeze warnings, wind chills in the 20s and 30s. Wind advisories with gusts hitting 40 miles an hour. Red Flag Warnings for fire weather too. This front brought the whole toolbox. But Wednesday the thaw begins. Seventies return. By Friday you're flirting with 80 again.
Charge your phone, grab that extra blanket. And maybe text your neighbor with the tropical plants.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care!
