Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly, and welcome to the Florida Weather Podcast. It's Sunday, February 22nd, and folks, Florida is about to pull a magic trick today. We're starting in the 60s with fog and ending with freeze warnings. Same day. Same state.
Here's what's happening. A cold front is barreling through right now, dragging thunderstorms with it. North Florida, you're already hearing the rumble. Those storms push into Central Florida and Tampa Bay by mid morning, clearing through by early afternoon. South Florida, you'll catch a stray shower around 1 PM, but nothing dramatic. Rainfall stays light everywhere.
Now the plot twist. Your high temperature today? It happens before lunch. North Florida tops out around 72 degrees near 10 AM. Central Florida and Tampa hit the mid 70s by 11. South Florida squeezes out 83 degrees around 1 PM. After that, temperatures nosedive.
Tonight is where things get serious. Northwest winds crank up to 25 miles an hour with gusts hitting 30. That wind is dragging in air that has no business being in Florida. North Florida drops to 35 degrees with wind chills down to 32 degrees. Central Florida falls to 39 with wind chills at freezing. Tampa settles near 44. South Florida cools to 51. Freeze warnings are posted for North Florida. Cold weather advisories cover much of Central Florida. You'll want to protect those plants and pets tonight.
Monday morning? The coldest punch. North Florida wakes up near freezing with highs only in the low 50s. Central Florida and Tampa stay in the mid 50s. South Florida manages the low 60s. Your winter coat finally earns its keep.
The week ahead warms up quickly though. Tuesday climbs back into the 60s. Wednesday we're flirting with 70s again. By Friday, 80s return with another front lurking on the horizon.
One quick thing. If you're enjoying these daily updates, share the podcast with a neighbor. Word of mouth keeps us going.
Take care out there tonight. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
