    Episode 8: Growth vs. Value

Growth stocks - companies that have the potential to grow revenues at a rate that is much higher than the market - have been driving the post-COVID rally in 2020. Value stocks trade at prices below their fundamentals and have performed well historically. Understanding the difference between these two styles of stocks, and knowing their performance over time, will help you optimize your portfolio.

Many of our clients ask about the impact that the outcome of the presidential election may have on investments, markets, and general economic stability. • Episode 5: The Shape of Our Economic Recovery

Episode #5: The Shape of Our Economic Recovery

Our post-coronavirus economic recovery is dependent on many factors. We can look at the possible outcomes in three shapes. The first outcome, the V shape, a sharp drop, like the one we saw in March and April of this year, and equally sharp recovery is unlikely. Too much time has passed since the initial downturn for that to be the case. The U shape view of the recovery is more realistic in that it predicts a longer timeline to come out of the recession but a stable and plotted course toward it. It is reliant upon another fiscal stimulus package to spark spending and consumer confidence. The W shape or "double-dip" recovery is the worst-case scenario for our economy and for all those living in the US. This would mean that the markets and employment numbers take another deep dive before we see any type of long term and sustained recovery. While less likely than the U shape model, the W shape recovery could come to fruition in the case of a substantial uptick in global coronavirus cases, international unrest, or a contested presidential election. If we work together as a society we can steer our course on the U shaped model and slowly but surely regain our footing.

  • Episode 3: Why International Equities?

    Episode #3: Why International Equities

The US has substantially outperformed its global equity market counterparts in recent years, so why bother investing internationally?

    The answer is simple...Opportunity.

US stocks only make up 54% of the global equity market. That's a 46% chance that you are missing an opportunity. As they say, past performance does not indicate future results and, the pendulum is bound to swing back in favor of international stocks over domestic at some point.

We cannot time the market, so your best bet is to have a diverse portfolio that is represented with domestic, international, and emerging market equities so that you aren' missing opportunities amid market shifts.

Episode #2: FOMO and Your Investment Decisions

When it comes to investing, the fear of missing out can lead you to make decisions that may not benefit your portfolio success. In our current market, where we are seeing the large tech companies grow by leaps and bounds while others, once reliable sectors, cannot seem to get ahead, there is the temptation to buy in or sell-off. You would be wise to exercise prudence during tumultuous times and not let your FOMO get the better of you.
