The South Australian water minister wants to take a united front to the Murray Darling Basin Ministers' meeting on Friday and crticised the South Australian Liberal Opposition for not backing voluntary buybacks as a means to return water to the River Murray environment. We listen to comments earlier on Tuesday morning from Riverland resident and former irrigator, now Liberal senator Anne Ruston, on the impact buybacks had, discuss progress on securing desalination for the Eyre Peninsula, and a new joint federal-state voucher program to help flood affected SA Murray residents remove waste from their premises.

The Mildura Rural City Council has floated as many as 14 possible future rating proposals for revenue in future, one of which would hike farmers' council rates to help deliver rate relief to those living in Mildura. The state MP Jade Benham encouraged ratepayers to have their say on the proposals, and reflected on Labor premier Daniel Andrews clocking 3,000 days in office, earning him the right to a bronze statue at the state administration centre under a Kennett-era policy commitment that has immortalised former premiers.

The Victorian Nationals member for Mallee in north western Victoria is unclear at this stage whether a statement received by FlowFM over the weekend from the ANZ means curtains or salvation for the Robinvale branch closure as we discuss a busy first sitting fortnight of federal parliament. The Nationals moved a fresh inquiry into regional bank branch closures, the secretariat writing to the 'big four' banks urging them not to close branches while the inquiry was underway.
