Downtown Honolulu is a great place to birdwatch, thanks to the Manu o Kū. The Hawaiian, scientific, and common names of Honolulu's Official "Bird of the City" have surprising connections to history, food, and family.

The start of the new school year coincides with the return of the kōlea. Examining the role of the Pacific golden plover in Hawaiian culture opens a window into what constitutes a "right relationship" with the world. The trio of stories, "Nā Aliʻi Hoʻoluhi o Kaʻū," underscores our need for compassion, in all its forms.
