In Matthew 5-7 we have a portion of Scripture commonly referred to as the Sermon on the Mount. In this passage, Jesus begins to instruct the people regarding the Standard of the Kingdom - His Kingdom. Those who will follow the King should understand the Standard of the King and His Kingdom. In the beginning of this teaching, Jesus reveals that the Standard of His Kingdom is different than that of the world. Those following Christ will have a different worldview; they will think differently. Those who begin to think with this Kingdom mindset will be different in this world; they will be as salt and light. In fact, if you begin operating your life in submission to the mindset of the King, Jesus states that you will be like a city that is set upon a hill whose light cannot be hid! After Jesus' time in the wilderness, He entered the city of Capernaum and formally began His earthly ministry with the proclamation of the same message as His forerunner, John the Baptist: 'Repent, for the Kingdom of the heavens has drawn near!' In the book of Luke, we are told of the decree of Caesar of Augustus for the world to be registered. As a result of this decree, Joseph took his betrothed wife Mary to the town of his family's lineage: Bethlehem. While there, they received a visit from some wisemen from the east who came to worship, and give presents to, the newborn King. On the way, these wisemen had past through the city of Jerusalem looking for the newborn King. This investigation brought great consternation to King Herod.
