Nick Ryan talks about financial investigation and academia with the new winner of the Martin Kenney Award, Olivia Bruce, as well as academic and former law enforcement specialist, Janet McClements.

The Martin Kenney Award for Outstanding Contribution to Financial Investigation is given to one student from the University of Lancashire's MSc in Financial Investigation each year, part of a partnership between the university's School of Law and Policing and MKS Law.

As this year's winner, Olivia had to overcome the death of her mother before studying to gain a Distinction for her dissertation on public knowledge of money laundering. Her tutor, Janet, describes the nature of the course and the changing nature of academia studying financial investigation.

Martin Kenney is a Visiting Professor at the School of Law and Policing and this is the fifth year MKS Law has sponsored an award at the University of Lancashire.

Today, Nick Ryan from MKS interviews Gul Meena Rehman, who won the 2024 Martin Kenney Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Study of Financial Investigation.

Presented in conjunction with the School of Law and Policing at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), this year's award winner had to overcome adversity and challenges before gaining a distinction for her MSc in Financial Investigation at UCLan.

An unexpected pregnancy, losing her father and health complications are just some of the challenges Gul Meena had to deal with in a turbulent period of her life. She also shares her thoughts and expertise gleaned from her career in compliance in a tier 1 UK bank.
