  • Encore - Banking on Joy - James 1:2

Banking on Joy. Does joy matter in your day? Do you experience God's joy at work? The promise and the hope of it can pull us through difficulties. It also energizes us and enables us to give more than we ever thought. It makes us transform in our circumstances. The joy set before Jesus enabled Him to save us. The joy of walking with God makes us ministers in our workplace.

  • Encore - Are You Careful About Your Faith? - Mark 14:3

Just before Jesus was crucified, a lady came to him during an evening meal and broke an expensive jar of perfume and poured it over Jesus. She wasn't rational. She didn't just sprinkle some of it on him. But she broke the vial. She wanted to use every bit. When we love someone we do unreasonable things. Our love prompts us. Do we love Jesus such that we would do unreasonable things simply because we love him? Do we ever give our time and money because of our love? Do we do anything that can't be explained except for the fact that we love Jesus?

  • Encore - Actions and Habits - Luke 6:47-49

Jesus can be the foundation for our actions, or not. When obeying Jesus is not the reason for our actions, we construct our life on a weak foundation. Poor decisions follow poor decisions. Over time, our life can't handle the difficulties of life in general.

Jesus finishes his point from yesteday. If we do what he says, we will have a solid foundation. We will build a house that can stand the test of time and weather. Imagine your life is a building. What have you built? What is it based upon? What will you add today? What will you add in the next few weeks?

How you spend your time matters. The building analogy is important. When Mike was younger, he considered he could always change. Now that he's getting older, change is harder. After a while, what we build is harder and more difficult to fix. Think about every action you take as a brick, or some nails. Next year you may want to build something on to what you've built today. Every action takes us toward or away from God. How we act in our job is no exception. Will your actions today move you one notch closer to Jesus, or one farther away? If we have Jesus as our foundation, let's do what he says. we will build our house on a solid foundation.

This foundation is one of the best reasons for taking the Marketplace Mission Trip, too. Practice choosing to obey Jesus as you do the activities of your job, as you live your life. Our next mission trip begins in just a few days. Learn more and sign up at MarketplaceMissionTrip.com.

    Dealing with the Whole Self

Dale begins to describe that every person is a "whole person". The whole person is a combination of three main things - Your work life, personal life, and your spiritual life. If you only address one or two of those things you are limiting both your potential and experiences. This directly relates to faith at work (spiritual life). We were all created to do something very specific but most of the time this is difficult to figure out and find. My listening and honing in on our "whole self" we can be to structure our next steps and find out just what God has in store for us. In fact, Dale wrote a book on this (one in a series) called The Identity Key. This book is designed to help you understand on a deep level who you were created to BE and could be a great place to start!

  • Encore - Acknowledge God - Proverbs 3:5-6

What does it mean to acknowledge? How does our life look different when we acknowledge God? One way is that our paths are made straight. We might not get clarity, but we find straight paths. We find shorter ways of doing things. Or we find that we accomplish something completely different and better than we might otherwise. Can we acknowledge God and trust Him today?

  • Encore - Say Yes To God - Luke 1:38
Mary said "Here I am" to God. Beginning at verse 34, we hear how Mary interacts with the angel. In the end, she said, "I'm the servant here. May it be done to me according to your word."

Here's a moment. Notice how Mary responds. Her humility is encouraging and humbling. Her first question is, "How can this be?" She doesn't doubt, but she humbly asks. In one moment, her life changes and soon the world will change. I read this and her psalm at the end of the chapter and I'm blown away. I'm grateful that God is patient with me. And I'm grateful that he gives me other chances. And sadly, I wonder what I've missed.

Living our faith means we intentionally invite Jesus into every moment, even, and especially, when he surprises us. It takes practice. How will you respond. As we celebrate Mary's actions and the outcome of this series of events, can we also celebrate and rededicate ourselves to invite Jesus into every moment. Start by punching in. Put yourself on his clock and give yourself an evaluation a few times every day.

And thank you for being a marketplace minister. Why not tell a few friends about this podcast and community. Let's spend more of our moments saying Yes to Jesus.
