As Jesus’ journey now moves toward Jerusalem, he challenges his disciples to understand his identity. Jesus’ conversation reveals a danger we face: we may be tempted to define Jesus on our own terms. After raising the question of his own identity, Jesus turns to the identity of his disciples. To be a disciple, we must join Jesus on his journey. We must deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow him.
