Faith Is the Title Deed to Our Joint-Heir Ownership
(Hebrews 11:1 AMP) Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses].
We have seen in the past few devotional teachings that the Holy Spirit defined faith for us in Heb. 10:23–39: Faith is confession, perseverance, obedience, confident expectation of Jesus’s imminent return, and pressing forward. Then in Heb. 11:1, we see an amazing list of the qualities and characteristics of this faith:
Faith is the “assurance” of what we want and need
Faith is the “title deed” of their ownership
Faith is all the “confirmation” that could be required
This is all “divinely guaranteed”—by Jesus’s shed blood and his death, burial, and subsequent resurrection
Faith is the “evidence”—it’s all the evidence we need to have our claim to inheritance approved in the highest of high courts: God’s throne
Faith get’s hold of information that cannot be gained, perceived, or experienced by the five physical senses—taste, smell, feel, touch, or hearing with the natural ear. In other words, faith and revelation are divinely joined.Pure, tested, and true faith is the title deed to every aspect and item of the inheritance we have in Jesus—the benefits of our gospel partnership with him. We know that this is true because “it is written” in God’s word, and because we have already received the first installment, the Holy Spirit:
(Ephesians 1:13–14 AMP) In Him you also who have heard the Word of Truth, the glad tidings (Gospel) of your salvation, and have believed in and adhered to and relied on Him, were stamped with the seal of the long-promised Holy Spirit. {14} That [Spirit] is the guarantee of our inheritance [the firstfruits, the pledge and foretaste, the down payment on our heritage], in anticipation of its full redemption and our acquiring [complete] possession of it—to the praise of His glory.
In this important passage, we can easily see all the ingredients for receiving what we need from our inheritance package:
Hear the word
Believe the word and fully trust in Jesus
Receive the new birth
Receive the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the guarantee of our inheritance
He is also the down payment of all we have inherited in Christ—much of which will be experienced and enjoyed throughout the eternal future, but some of it we need in the here and now to help us in our God-given assignments. This is what we are learning to access.
