While following Jesus is hearing and obeying, the Israelites are a constant example
that it is impossible to do so in our own strength. We need to abide.

Jesus said, Blessed are those who hear the Word of God and obey it. –Luke 11:28.... The Lord called to Moses from the mountain and said, “Give these instructions to thefamily of Jacob; announce it to the descendants of Israel: –Exodus 19:3 (NLT)‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians. You know how I carried you on eagles’ wingsand brought you to myself. –Exodus 19:4 (NLT)Now if you will obey me and keep my covenant, you will be my own special treasure fromamong all the peoples on earth; for all the earth belongs to me. –Exodus 19:5 (NLT)And you will be my kingdom of priests, my holy nation.’ This is the message you must giveto the people of Israel.” –Exodus 19:6 (NLT)The people all responded together, “We will do everything the Lord has said.” So Mosesbrought their answer back to the Lord.
