Why do children get cancer, why do loved ones die too soon, why are people abused or abandoned or betrayed, why do earthquakes and hurricanes destroy so many lives? But eventually it turns personal for everyone: why did this happen to me? If God is good, why didn't he stop it, protect me, heal my loved one? And when God is silent, the doubts follow: maybe he doesn't care, maybe I'm being punished, maybe he isn't there at all. Jesus rose on Sunday morning, so why does it still feel like Saturday? The pastor is explicit that the message will not answer the question. It will offer handles for trusting God in the middle of pain, not an explanation of pain.

Scientific discovery can challenge the way we understand Scripture and the world, but it does not have to threaten faith. When pursued with humility and curiosity, science and faith can deepen our understanding of truth and lead us toward greater wonder and trust in God.
