Trying to office and conference at the same time is a huge #workfail. Instead of micromanaging the day to day, trust your team to handle things in your absence. Then go network and knowledge harvest like it's your job,

  1. Multitasking splits your attention and triggers a major stress responses that's a conference-goer buzzkill
  • Technology is you frenemy if you make yourself available for microinterruptions.
  • FOMO about the projects you're working on is really about your own need to feel needed and signals to your team that you don't really trust them.
  • Conference attendance is real work. It deserves your full attention.
  • Being on call and not setting boundaries with your staff isn't heroic- it's a leadership failure.
  • Conferences are a form of regeneration and bring you fresh perspective to apply on your current and future projects
  • Networking is as valuable as the knowledge gained, so don;t opt out of social opportunities or spend so much time on your phone you ignore the people IRL who could turn into powerful contacts.
