If I asked you, “How did slavery end?” What would you say?

You probably wouldn’t say, “God made slavery illegal through a series of white presidents.”

But this preacher did.

We are living in a moment that feels like midnight for democracy.

Authoritarianism is on the rise. Justice is under attack. And for many Christians, it’s hard to know how to respond without becoming overwhelmed or disillusioned.

But Scripture doesn’t leave us without direction.

I couldn't take my eyes off the building.

I was chatting will a fellow group member, but the marble of the Capitol Building kept me turning my head.

The smoky streaks of grey wafting through the whitish-cream colored stone. The precise lines and stately columns.

The building felt solemn and important. I felt...patriotic?

Suddenly this fierce feeling of protectiveness came over me.

"This is our building. This is our Congress. This is our country. The oligarchs and white Christian nationalists can't have it. Hands off my democracy!"

So far we’ve seen basically all the awfulness of this regime fall by the wayside, not because people don’t care, but because there’s always some fresh terrible news that captures our attention.

Not with SignalGate. At least not so far.

The truth is vanishing.

But not only the truth. People are vanishing as well.

For the more than 250 Venezuelans deported from the United States to a notorious detention center in El Salvador, their nightmare is only beginning.

A chilling article in TIME, details their arrival.

Then a PhD student at Tufts University was accosted and detained by plainclothes officers, some wearing masks, while she was walking down the street.

Her crime?

Holding the wrong political opinions according to this regime.

These will not be vanishing acts.

Not with our safety, not our people, and not on our watch.
