The COVID-19 pandemic hit everyone hard, but small business owners were experiencing a different kind of crisis. With state-wide shutdowns, business capacity restrictions, mask requirements and additional safety regulations in place, many small businesses couldn't manage without their steady income. We saw some of our most beloved hometown businesses shutting their doors or dramatically reducing staff and operating hours. We spoke with Rhonda Grote, the owner of Lebanon's well-known Royce Cafe that shut down as a result of the pandemic, and she shared some of her experience as a business owner facing this difficult time. Don't forget to SHOP LOCAL and keep all our business owners in your prayers as they are still trying to recuperate from 2020. In this sort of "sandwich generation", women are finding themselves needing to help care for their parents while still caring for children at home. Taking on such a responsibility can put a strain on the family dynamic for the caretaker, their marriage, sibling relationships, and so many other areas of family life. She was young, unmarried, and unexpectedly pregnant. She hid from others under the weight of shame and condemnation, but she held tight to the knowledge that God had a plan for this life inside of her and He would travel this difficult journey with her. In the victory of the story of Jesus, we often forget that His young mother found herself "unexpectedly expecting" and walked a very lonely and heavy road to carry Him in her womb. In this episode, we're chatting with Jani Uhrig about how she came to make the decision of "life" for her son when she became pregnant in high school. If you or someone you know is looking for support during an unexpected pregnancy, FOP Church encourages those in the area to reach out to the New Life Women's Clinic in Wilmington, Ohio, where pregnant women can find assistance throughout their pregnancy and the birth of their baby. You can contact the clinic at (937) 382-2424 or by visiting NewLifeSupport.org

One of the more difficult parts of parenthood is when your children grow up and leave home. That's what most people refer to as becoming an "empty nester". However, 2020 has left many of us with an "empty nest" for many other reasons as well. As we've faced a global pandemic, many have spent holidays, special occasions, birthdays, etc. with an "emptier than usual" home. Unfortunately, a large number of people have lost loved ones to this virus and are facing a more permanent change than imagined. In this episode, we talk with Vicky Piper who became (kind of famously) an empty nester several years ago, but we also address the void of losing a loved one and what hope we have as we approach the holiday season this year. We learn how Vicky finds joy in counting blessings and trusting in Jesus.
Anxiety can feel exhausting physically, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally. The exhaustion and tension is from carrying a weight of battle that isn't yours. It's already won. In this episode, we talk with Bobi Gray about her victory over anxiety not just for herself, but also for her children and family. She encourages us to walk in a mentality of "desire over duty". Desire to be with Papa God. Desire to pray, to worship and praise, to be still and listen. Desire Him! Desire Him like David, sit with Him like Mary, and take authority in the name of Jesus.
According to the CDC, suicide is the 10th leading cause of death for people of all ages in the United States each year. This is something that impacts far more people than we probably realize, and suicide rates are highest in women between the ages of 45-64. It's an important discussion to have, and today we have the privilege of speaking with Lisa Bergman who lost her mother to this invisible mental illness. She helps bring some perspective to how suicide impacts the family and friends of its victims.
