Evil should shock us. Evil that begins as a small, selfish desire that grows and collects momentum like the worst kind of snowball you could ever imagine rolling down a mountain of hate and violence. It should shock us a whole lot earlier than when the resulting avalanche pummels us, but it makes sense that we’re pummeled. The light that breaks through the avalanche is hope.
