Freeze is not peace. Freeze is the body's emergency response to a threat so significant that neither fight nor flight feels like a viable option. So, the system does something else entirely. It stops. It goes quiet. It holds everything perfectly still and waits. And during major life transitions, freeze becomes one of the most isolating responses available. Because the people around you often cannot see it, and you may not have language for what is happening inside you. Today we are going to name it clearly.

Flight is quieter than fight. It does not announce itself with a raised voice or a sharp word. It slips out through a changed subject. A suddenly full schedule. A text left on read. A version of yourself that shows up to the relationship while the rest of you has already left the room.
And during major life transitions, flight becomes one of the most common responses we reach for because when everything around us is shifting, disappearing feels like the safest thing we can do.
Today we are going to look at what that costs us.

At 11:40, the audio skips and doesn't complete the sentence, "This is how you would communicate to someone in Tier 1." Sorry about that ya'll.
This episode teaches listeners that the soul response belongs to them first and that discernment about WHO receives their full truth is a spiritual practice, a social skill, and an act of profound self-love. Spiritual sovereignty includes knowing where your sacred truth lands safely.
In this 2-part series within the series, we explore:

In this episode, I introduce two responses that live within each of us: the survival response and the soul response. Drawing from my own personal journey through childhood sexual abuse (no details given), intimacy, and somatic healing, I share what freeze, flight, fight, and fawn look like inside our everyday conversations and what becomes possible when we create enough safety for our soul response to lead.
This episode holds clinical depth and roots it in something older and more sacred: the spiritual wisdom of indigenous traditions that have always known that healing lives in the body, in community, and in our ancestors.
Come ready to feel. Come ready to be witnessed. Come ready to begin calling yourself back to yourself.
This episode includes a spiritual sovereignty reflection and ancestor invocation. Find a safe space to listen fully when you are able.

This is a tender episode, so we went a bit slower than usual, but it was necessary. Before we talk about how we communicate, we need to talk about who we are beneath it all.
In this episode of Echoes of Truth: Communicating Beyond Survival, I introduce spiritual sovereignty as the foundation of all healing communication. Drawing from African diasporic wisdom and Dagara tradition, this episode explores what it means to reclaim your interior life - your spirit, your lineage, your sovereign self - as the ground from which authentic connection grows.
We'll explore how systems of oppression targeted the interior life specifically, why reclaiming your spiritual center is an act of resistance, and how to assemble your Spiritual Team of Blood, Nourishing, and Spiritual Ancestors with discernment, protection, and care.
This episode also holds space for those carrying the weight of harmful lineage - particularly those grappling with ancestral shame - and offers an invitation toward honest reckoning and transformation.
We close with two cards from the Echoes of Truth Reflection Deck: Rewrite the Pattern and Speak to the Ancestors.
Your ancestors walked before you. Your spirit arrived with medicine. This episode invites you to remember both.
See you next week. Now go rest. 🤍

Many of the ways we communicate today were learned in service of survival. In this episode, we explore how experiences of trauma, family dynamics, fawning, silence, avoidance, and self-protection shape our communication patterns. Together, we'll begin shifting from asking, "What's wrong with me?" to asking, "What did this help me survive?"
