Matthew 6:2 When you give to someone in need, don't do as the hypocrites do-- Blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attentions to their acts of charity!. I tell you the truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get.
Many of us will go through life convincing ourselves of motives that are really tainted. We do things in such away to glorify ourselves but disguise it as helping others, or sacrificing. When we give or do anything for God, our motives need to be right.
How do we have this heart check?
Remember-
Proverbs 21:2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the heart.
Proverbs 3:6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean to your own understanding. In al your ways acknowledge him, and he will make our straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes;
• We must own that fact that we do things to get attentions. We do it subtly but we do.
We must never assume our motives are initially pure, because we are not initially good. It is God who makes us Good.
