Poetry On Life

For My Golfing Friends of those Bygone Days

Listen Later

Look at dust and rejoice

When that ‘birdie’ putt is the choice,

But, when enveloped by darkness

Then, at the stars and the divine voice.

Let that ball roll for you

Give it the tap that rings nice and true

Then, hear your heart skip a beat

As you wait without a clue.

Then hear that ‘gorgeous’ disappear

The terrifying ball that fills you with fear,

As it sinks into that cup, or

Leaves you crying with a lasting tear.

Golf’s the teacher, indeed, supreme

Through rough and smooth, as does the bream

Swim, or drown or play the clown

Life’s a circus, nightmare or dream.

Take your pick and move on

But, golf is gratifying beyond compare,

Play with friends is always best

But, okay with a Tiger or the Bear.

Happy Swinging, the wilder the better

Not many on the course follow the letter,

Strange is this game with foliage around

But, not many will you find equal, none better.
