School Board Appreciation Week was recently celebrated in the state of Tennessee. So it is a great time to focus on the crucial role an elected school board plays in our communities and schools.  Harvey Walden is one of 9 JMCSS Board members who voluntarily tackle the enormous job of governing our school districts. Their actions and decisions impact the present and future of Madison County students, school employees, and families.

This morning we’ll visit with members of the upcoming theater production - ALL Shook Up! Carsen Cole from Liberty Tech and Khaliah Wade from Jackson Academic STEAM Academy are here to talk about their roles in the musical and tell us about several opportunities for students at their respective schools. This morning, we’ll visit with Dr. Shari Baldwin, principal at South Side High School. She’ll recap her first semester in the big seat, and provide an overview of the exciting programs and activities at the South Jackson campuses.

This week, we’ll visit with Rhonda Heard, School and Community Engagement Advisor for Jackson-Madison County Schools. We will discuss the Open Enrollment season for students, and the exciting magnet school options families can consider for 2025. Also joining us this morning is Starr Smith, school counselor at South Side High School. She’ll help us highlight multiple career programs and dual enrollment options at South Side and our traditional high school campuses.
