Episode 10 features my interview with Coach Chad Carpenter, former Washington State standout, Arizona Cardinal and current Assistant Coach at Chandler High School in Arizona. Unlike many of us who've grown up in the sport of football, Chad has enjoyed multiple undefeated seasons in his career...both as a player and coach. As the passing game coordinator, he helped lead Chandler HS to an undefeated 2019 State Championship season! He shares the thrills of his collegiate experiences, as well as the reality and disappointment of injuries and the "business" of the NFL.

Chad reflects on how from the very beginning of his HS career in Weiser Idaho, he was exposed to and became a part of several very successful "winning cultures" that helped shape the player he became and the coach he is today! Chad uses those experiences on a daily basis to guide him in his relationships with his players and fellow coaches. He candidly shares some important "lessons learned" along the way, from which all of us may benefit!

Episode 9 features Billy "White Shoes" Johnson, one of the top return men in the history of the NFL. His 14-year career started in 1974, after being drafted by the Houston Oilers. His speed and illusive running style soon earned him the respect of everyone in the league. It was once said, he could "stop on a dime and leave change!"

Billy played with Houston from 1974-80, where he earned Pro Bowl honors in 1975 (MVP) and 1977. He spent the 1981 season playing in the CFL for the Montreal Allouettes. He returned to the NFL in 1982 with the Atlanta Falcons. During the 1983 season, he doubled as full-time kick returner and starting wide receiver, earning his 3rd trip to the Pro Bowl and being named "Comeback Player of the Year."

"White Shoes" is in the College Football Hall of Fame, the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame and was selected as the punt returner for the NFL's 75th Anniversary All-time Team.

We're proud to present the first "Veteran" episode in our podcast series.  Episode 8 features Lieutenant General (Retired) Don Campbell.  LTG (Ret) Campbell is a huge football fan and avid Kansas State Wildcat alumnus.  His success throughout a very distinguished career was largely based on "team building" leadership.  He leaned heavily on the Army Values, which we discuss in detail and compare to the "life skills" learned in football.

We delve into the concept of "service" in many forms, the most noble of which is "service to country."  LTG (Ret) Campbell shares insights and linkages between Army life and football...and how his leadership style is rooted in the concept of "team"work!

Episode 7 features Coach Thurmond Moore - an expert defensive line specialist, who has coached at every level from High School through the NFL. He has either trained or coached such notable NFL talent as: Dwight Freeney, Joey Porter, JJ Watt, Cameron Jordan and Aaron Donald. During the interview, Coach Moore shares some of his observations about the common traits of top performers.

Growing up as an "Army brat," Coach Moore developed a deep respect and appreciation for the military. Not only was his dad his hero, he was also young Thurmond's youth baseball coach and the reason Thurmond became a coach!  This is a light-hearted look at one man's journey through football and why "a little sugar goes a long way!"

Our fifth episode features Dale Hellestrae, former NFL long snapper and three-time Super Bowl Champion with the Dallas Cowboys!  Dale's remarkable 17-year career included playing for the Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Raiders, Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens. 

Dale discusses how growing up as a multi-sport athlete shaped his development and set the foundation for understanding how consistent hard work produces the best results!  He shares his belief that the Cowboys' run of success was less about talent and more about being the "hardest working team" in the league.

Coach Cottrell, know as one of the innovators of the 3-4 defense, shares history and insights from his journey in football...from a small D3 college to playing and coaching in the NFL.

This third episode of For The Good Of The Game features former Nebraska All American and NFL Center, Bill Lewis.  Bill and his son Alex (currently playing for the NY Jets) are one of only five families in Nebraska football history to have both father and son serve as  team captains.  Bill shares memories from a lifetime of playing football, from Middle School up through the NFL...from favorite moments and coaches to some of the remarkable teammates with whom he shared the field.
